Wake the Fark up!

Sat Feb 11, 2006 at 10:18:42 AM PDT

heh. There's something that's been nagging me as of late.  And I think it's an issue we really need to discuss.

I hang around a lot on Fark.com, Slashdot.com, and other sites of their ilk.  They are THE most visited sites on the internet for the majority of net users and they are also heavily populated with television and print journalists.

I've been a member of Fark.com and TotalFark for years.  A headline ends up on the main page of that site, you can almost be certain the story and the ensuing arguments in the accompanying threads will be making national news.  It never fails.  Everyday there are political threads where liberals, conservatives, libretarians, etc meet and clash over ideas.  You want to see Middle America on the web, check it out.

More below the fold thingee...

Cindy needs to know this!!!

Thu Aug 25, 2005 at 07:53:00 PM PDT

Hey, just found this linked on another website.  Not sure if it's been made public on Kos yet, but apparently Neo-Nazis are planning on heading down to Crawford this weekend to join Cindy.

This is not good.

London Calling, NYC answering.

Sun Jul 10, 2005 at 04:02:19 PM PDT

I came across this in another thread.

A kind word, a caring act and a city transformed by tragedy

London's reaction, this sudden coming-together, has been put down, by one or two commentators, to the new spirit engendered by the Olympic win; and, hell, who knows? But I really don't think so; I think it goes back further than that. We did know it was coming. We may have forgotten, for a while, but inside we still knew the bad stuff, like a smoker's relationship with his lungs. No one in this city can forget New York's reaction to 9/11; and a quiet part of Londoners - by which I mean, simply, people living in London - had been preparing for theirs.

Below the fold is my response.

More FOX News: Too bad it's not the French

Thu Jul 07, 2005 at 09:38:31 PM PDT

Have you recently eaten?  If yes, come back after you digest.  If no, read on.

I was bopping along cyberspace and came across this gem of an article by John Gibson.

Here's the opening paragraph:

"The bombings in London: This is why I thought the Brits should let the French have the Olympics -- let somebody else be worried about guys with backpack bombs for a while."

And he's just getting warmed up.

"So, Thursday was a big day for Al Qaeda. They got nearly four-dozen Brits and they killed the Egyptian ambassador. But you have to ask if the attack in London was in fact so big."

But it isn't until the end that we get the full force of this man's intention.  And I dare to say, his intellect.

"And for this exact reason, I think the Patriot Act (search) and other powers the feds have asked for to keep an eye on potential terrorists are important and should be put in place and kept in place and the police should use those powers."

They really are making a name for themselves today.  But I'll leave that to you to come up with it.  I'm a bit speechless.  And nauseus.

Andy Rooney on war, peace, and a need for a new way

Sun May 29, 2005 at 08:33:29 PM PDT

Here is but one quote from Andy Rooney's brilliant piece tonight on 60 Minutes:

"There is more bravery at war than in peace, and it seems wrong that we have so often saved this virtue to use for our least noble activity - war. The goal of war is to cause death to other people. "

And here is a link to the full video:

Much peace.
